Welcome to Production Note #10 about last week’s work on the Leo “Bud” Welch Documentary.
Lisa worked out another version of our movie, v5 with exactly 100 minutes, and we of course immediately showed it to another film pro – this time it was the editor who fell ill the week before.
His take on our movie was very new and refreshing, he told us many things the we’ve already felt but weren’t able to articulate yet – problems that would have come up sooner or later anyway, so it’s good to being able to tackle them right now.
His most important advice was to let the movie breathe, to give our characters, especially Leo of course, more room so our audience can get a deeper, emotional understanding of who Leo “Bud” Welch really is.
We’ve taken his advice to heart and again restructured big parts of the movie and decided to use more real scenes, atmosphere shots and montages. We had already started to do that for our current version v5, and it clearly added another emotional layer to the movie, so it only makes sense to intensify this.
As these words are written, Lisa is already working hard on implementing those changes, and again, we can’t wait to see the results of those changes.
We already have many more film pros lined up for our next few Test Screenings, so as soon as the next version is ready, we’ll test drive it again to get some more professional opinions – they really help us to get a deeper understanding of all the ways our movie can be perceived.
