Production Note #1

 In Production Notes

Following the suggestion of our Kickstarter backer John Rodgers, we will now post more or less weekly Production Notes about the making of the Leo “Bud” Welch Documentary – starting today.

So, here’s what we’ve been up to this week:

Our editor Lisa has been busy compiling and rough-editing the footage according to the script Wolfgang has written over the last couple of weeks. So this week, Wolfgang and Lisa watched the very first – and really VERY rough – rough cut of our footage. It was over 4 1/2 hours long.

Watching it, it became clear that beside the fact that the movie is still WAY too long, not everything Wolfgang has written in the script will work the way he hoped. So he’s been busy rewriting and restructuring while Lisa spent the rest of the week editing stand-alone scenes.

Also we became aware of some more possible archive footage that would fit in our story really well, so we tried to get our hands on it. Luckily, one piece of this new archive footage has already been cleared yesterday, we’re hoping for some more to clear in the next couple of days.

Our brother Lorenz Zadro from Blues Made In Italy sent us some great footage from a concert Leo did in Verona, Italy together with Lorenz. Not sure if we’ll use this in the movie, but we’ll definitely put parts of it on the DVD as a bonus feature, y’all have to see this!

So much for this week.

Stay tuned for another Production Note next Friday – we hope to be able to report some progress from the editing room then.
