Welcome to Production Note #8. It’s been a rather unproductive and therefore frustrating week for us.
We all watched the latest version of our movie (the one mentioned in last week’s Production Note) on the weekend, and while some members of the core team liked that version quite well, some others still felt it could be a lot better.
So we were all very anxious about showing the current version to our first film professional – to get a first neutral view from outside. This was scheduled to happen on Thursday, and we decided to not work on the movie any more before that. However, we had some bad luck and our first neutral test viewer got ill on Thursday morning and therefore had to cancel our appointment very short term, which turned the whole week into a very frustrating waste of time.
The lesson learned out of this is to never invite only one test viewer to such a screening so we don’t rely on one person’s well-being that much any more. And that’s what we’re planning for next week. We’re inviting two or three film pros to test screen the movie together with us (no room for more than three test viewers in the editing room), probably on Wednesday morning.
